Well, a bit of time has gone by since my last post....
So, now I am ready to start my gratitude blog up, ongoing.
Three things to be grateful for each day, at least one new thing to be grateful for each day:
1. Lovely New Years Day lunch with husband and friend at York Cove
2. Close encounters of the baby butcherbird kind
3. Very warm summer's day

"The opposite of death is birth."
"Death is not the opposite of life. Life has no opposite. The opposite of death is birth. Life is eternal. Death is stripping away all that is not you."
Eckhart Tolle - I believe.
My father slipped away, peacefully and unexpectedly in the early hours of New Year's Day, 2014. My sister Anne, had been up to visit him that evening and he was sitting in the dining room at St Ann's having dinner, she went back to his room with him afterwards and was talking about someone they both knew and Dad seemed to recognise the name. She then left and then my sister Jenny received a telephone call from St Ann's saying that when they checked him at about 1am he had slipped away, peacefully in his sleep.
As our Dad was 91 and in failing health, it is a blessed release for him and I am very grateful that he is not struggling on for us. He tricked us instead! In the nicest possible way. I would like to die peacefully in my sleep before I am too infirm either physically or mentally, as those of us who have had to think about it probably would too.
It was lovely to catch up with my family and especially my Dad for Christmas Day and have lunch with all the family who are in Tasmania at St Ann's. Dad loved family gatherings and celebrating anniversaries of the living and the dead.
The last big family gathering was for Dad's 90th birthday in 2012. My sister Kathryn and her children Sophie and Tommy came out from Ireland especially, and our only two cousins Margaret and Ken from Melbourne came over as well. As the photo below shows, we had a lovely night.

I only have words of praise for the staff at St Ann's. They have only shown patience and kindness with Dad and with us, and I thank them very much for that.
Dad has been a very active and well respected member of the community and I know that we will not be the only ones to miss him.

Day 3
Oh my goodness.... I am going to have to get a lot better at this! I am a day late again...
The things I am grateful for on Saturday 28th December 2013 are:
1. A lovely husband who has put the new bookcase together for me, so I can pretend to get more organized!
2. A kind neighbour who looks after our pussy cats if we go away overnight by feeding them and letting them out the next morning.

3. Lovely food, easily prepared and from scratch! Apricot chicken risotto! Who would believe, I don't normally mix fruit and meat and I don't like risotto! But I loved this and it was one of the best versions last night!

Day 1
I had better get started, forgot to do this last night! The three things I am most grateful for on 26 December 2013 are:
1. A delicious lunch at my favourite restaurant Peppers York Cove at George Town, with my husband! Peter and I both had the steak with celeriac mash, horseradish, pickled beetroot and roated capsicum. It is delicious and had I been at home, i would have licked out the plate, had to settle for using my finger - it's my birthday so I can do what I want!!!
This was followed by crepes with berry fruits, one had blueberries and raspberries, and the other strawberries. I don't know what they do with the strawberries, but they were delicious too!

This was all that was left on my plate! And we had some Evandale pinot noir which had a lovely hint of spicy-ness to it!
2. The lovely birthday wishes from family and friends. Nothing like a birthday to make you feel special! Thanks, guys!
3. My beautiful boys! They were only 5 and 8 when this was taken in 1992... I love them dearly and am very grateful to have them in my life! I am very proud to be their mother and to call them my sons.

This is a photo of one of my favourite photos, which was taken on Toby's 5th birthday! He loved nature, science things! Jonathan looks so serious!
